there is some minor damage to the back end of my ZX2 that was there when I purchased the car but it doesn't appear to be anything that would hinder the trunk opening. I've tried the key, the truck release button under the steering column, and even climbed in the trunk through the back seat and pulled the emergency release and pushed up while my dad was lifting from the outside and it still won't open. What can I do?

It sounds like you've done almost everything. The next step would be to get back inside the trunk and try to manually unlatch the trunk, or remove the latch assembly. When you get it apart you should be able to find the cause of the problem.
