recebtly came on,has not done so for many months;last time mechanic( Tuffy ) re-set the computer and said to drive on.

Yeah, resetting the computer and driving on never fixes it. Sounds like you probably could use a more qualified mechanic, unfortunately. It could be coming on from something as simple as a loose fuel cap. A diagnosis must be performed, starting by pulling the codes from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). It can be from a air intake issue, a fuel pressure issue, a vacuum leak... A test will be needed to find out what is going on.
