What is your question?
Today I started taking my 1997 escort apart just to see if for sure my head gasket was blown, and what i found when I removed the intake manifold, it comes in two pieces, the tubes like I have always seen, then between that section and the head was long body type assembly that the fuel injectors set in, this body has butterfly type valves, located on each intake port. I hope you know the part I am talking about, when I took this part off it had signs that coolent had gotten into this manifold. can you tell me if this could be my problem .

first of all, it is pretty gutsy of you to tackle this on your own. i would have had a leak down test on the cylinders to confirm a head gasket. that would be a definite answer to your question. the coolant on the runners could mean the coolant leak is up in the manifold or coming up from the cylinder. head gasket were very common in the early escorts but more common is cracked heads between cylinders. be very careful to look for these cracks. I have no water in the oil, which makes me think maybe I have this leak in the top of the engine, every time I had any exsperince with head gaskets I always had water in the oil , in this case that is not happening. What do you think , could the problem be upper gaskets.
it is possible but from where?? you are into the job now without knowing where the leak is located. if you can seal up the system and get dye and insert it and pressure test the system to see if you can idnetify the leak. Roy
