over heating and shutting off????

about a month ago my 1995 escort started over heating so i replaced the thermostat well it still over heats and now i will lose all power and then it will shut off, i have to wait till it cools down to start it and now the heat it draining my battery. lol i checked the water pump its fine. now i just do not have any idea.

driving the car overheating can and i think in your case, has done internal damage. it sounds like a head gasket. get it checked immediately to prevent further damage. Roy
