my 1994 escort lx has whining noise when turning steering wheel but has fluid

i did noticed it was leaking out at top of reservoir where the neck, for lack of knowledge...starts. (im a woman who knows nothing bout cars) the read. also i accidently put about a full cap of power steering fluid into the brake thing. is that real bad or do i need to do something>? i really appreciate your help! thanks
