What is your question?
I have an oil leak in my rear main seal. I had my transmission replaced about a year and a half ago. I’m wondering if these parts should have been replaced when the tranny was replaced. Because now they have to take the tranny out to fix this leak with a Seal ASY Crankshaft. And it’s almost $2,000 in labor.

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! I'm sorry to hear about that pesky rear main seal leak in your Escape. Since the labor overlap is significant, replacing the rear main seal would've been ideal when your transmission was replaced. Some shops might not replace the seal unless it's showing signs of wear or at the owner's request to keep costs down initially. However, a proactive mechanic might have recommended it, given the accessibility at that time. Now, you're facing the labor-intensive job of removing the transmission again to fix it, and yeah, that’s a bit like paying twice for one mistake. If you're feeling a bit miffed, it might be worth chatting with the shop that did the transmission work to see if they can offer any goodwill discount.
