My Ford escape is driving like it is in lower gear whenever I accelerate and then all of a sudden jumping forward like it's kicking into regular gear and the RPMs shoot sky high anytime I try to accelerate above 30

The RPMs shoot up to between 4000 and 6,000 whenever I even lightly tap on the acceleration, then it drives like it's in a low gear before throwing itself into limp mode and the rpm won't goes back below 3000
