What is your question?
My ac goes from cold to warm. Mechanic charged me a little over $1500 to replace the entire compressor hvac system, condensor and blower motor resistor or so they say. The first time they said they “fixed” it as soon as I left the shop it started to blow hot, I went back they popped the hood and it was like a mini explosion and white smoke that tasted gross came out. The only reason I know is I was down wind. It is still going in and out. The air outside is about 90 degrees and he says it can only blow 20 degrees cooler than outside temperature. Also I have 4 settings and even on MAX it blows like it’s weak, doesn’t blow hard enough. I also hear a hissing sound from under the glove box and I’ve seen smoke or like a vape like smoke come from the ac vent. I need help, advice or opinions on what I should do.
What makes this problem better or worse?
There is no better or worse. It just comes and goes.
How long has your 2011 Ford Escape had this problem?
About a year, but recently had it “fixed” a month ago.

"Replace the entire compressor hvac system" - you can't even approach doing that for $1,500. There are many components in the system -- and it doesn't do any good to "replace everything" anyway. Sounds like your explosion was toxic refrigerant not only venting to the atmosphere but also possibly poisoning anyone around. This doesn't sound very healthy nor professional in any way. Does you chosen repair shop utilize technicians with Section 609 EPA certification? I would ask for credentials. They may not really know what's going on here. You need a new technician to see what's going on and hopefully repair it. Your "explosion" could be due to a system restriction causing high pressure and venting of refrigerant. Unfortunately without knowing complete history and current condition hands on, it is impossible to know what's going on.
