I can't start my car because it has the anti-theft protection system on, what do I do?

Hi - Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. What kind of "anti-theft protection system" does your Escape have? Are we talking the factory equipped anti-theft system, utilizing key lock cylinders and remote keys to arm and disarm - along with the passive anti theft (PATS) system keys? Or is there some kind of add on system? First, I'd remove or defeat any add on system if there is one. If it's the factory equipped system that is not working, then it could be a key issue. Like, a non-programmed key being used to try and start your vehicle. Tell me more about what is going on and I can try to help further.
