when i turn and hit the gas im getting a popping noise form the back end

Most likely you have a bad u joint, or maybe a bad rear cv axle. You can check the u joint by shaking the drive shaft, if there is excessive play then most likely you need a u joint. Also check you rear axle shaft boots for tears in the rubber, you can also look for leaking grease by the axle boots.
