How to protect from a blown head gasket and engine has a block

While driving I heard a high bang, and a few feet away it stalled, then it moved some with more noises, did restart to get off road, but It suddenly had thick white smoke covering the windshield and wouldn't start therafter, how to protect this happening again, does low oil have anything to do with the the cracked head gasket
