truck was smoking, turned off ignition and waited for it cool down. Antifreeze allmost all gone and most of it was all over my engine. Put h2o in it to get it home (6 mi) but kept over heating every mile. Pulled over and h20 was still in it. Thermostat? I'm hoping

Many possibilities here. Make sure the engine fan is kicking on. You are also going to need to check for leaks so rent a pressure tester at a local auto parts store. Until you get the cooling system fixed I don't recommend running you're car past it's normal operating temperature. Or at all if possible. In my case I had a bad water pump a brand new defective thermostat and enough eletrical problems to scare me out of having a battery connected with the car off.
Thanks a bunch for responding. i felt the large hose as my repair manual said to. It was hot. also the fan is on for about a minute after i turn it off from overheating. Makes a howling sound until fan shuts off. Sounds unusual.
