It cranked fine. when I pulled out the driveway I noticed i has no power. and when i climbed a hill it got worse. after about 20 mins of driving it lost all pull. it idles low and funny but cranks everytime. Im not sure what i did to cause this?

Was there any running problem before you changed the plugs? Or was it just time to do it? My first guess would be is the plugs gap set correctly? they should be set at .052-.056 in. Did you disturb any of the coil connections at any of the plugs?

Thanks for the quick response. I had a coilpack that needed to be replaced. A buddy and I changed that one and the sparkplug. It ran great. 2 days later I pulled the oilpan off to replace the seal, Since I had it out we decided to go ahead and change the rest of the plugs. I didnt check the gaps, I thought they came preset? I also noticed a gas smell very strong and it looks like maybe the gas is coming through the muffler. Ill pull them back out and check the gap. Ill let you know in a few days when im able to get to it. Thanks again for the help.

You really should replace the boots on the coils whenever you pull the coils off to replace the plugs. I am certain if you did not do this that you are "leaking" spark and causing a performance issue.

Thanks for your help also! I really appreciate it. I didnt replace the boots. Im not sure what the boots are? I replaced one coilpack a couple of days before i decided to change all the plugs. And when we changed the coilpack and the first plug the car ran great. Ill look into what the boots are and check into it. thanks again for your help.

The boots are the rubber part of each coil. When you pull the coil on plug assembly off, the rubber stretches and cracks, thus compromising the insulating properties of the boot...causing spark leakage.

Mr. Bundy I would suggest taking it down to Umba Automotive for a fast and friendly fix of the problem. Those guys are the best.

Several causes are---an engine misfire, leaking injectors, fuel mixture too rich due to bad regulator, engine overheat, severely lean mixture, ignition timing retarded, and possibly even bad gas. All of the above can cause overheat and subsequent meltdown of the cataclysmic perverter and even a vehicle destroying fire (worst case) Best case--you've got exhaust clogging due to melted or broken-up perverter. Pull an 02 sensor , hook up a pressure gage & check backpressure. Anything over 1-2 lbs is evidence of the above. Finally, if your Escape is high mileage, it's likely in need of a new timing chain/sprocket set. The funny idle you mentioned sounds suspicious. If that's the case, it's way less expensive than the emissions equipment.
