Sounds like the heater core is leaking, Is the floor on the passenger side getting wet?

I have the same problem when the car warms up. I just replaced the heater core and the heater hoses and the odor remains. I am now wondering if the smell is due to the hose clamps being worn and permitting the smell to enter the cabin through the two holes where the heater core penetrates the firewall. Not sure as I do not see any steam leaking out of the hose ends. I am going to replace the hose clamps, reused the old clamps, and seal the hole where the heater core enters the engine compartment through the firewall with a small amount of silicon. Hope this will work as the smell is noxious.
Probably the heater core leaking and some vehicles won't get hot from this leaking
