What is your question?
I'm reaching out for your assistance with figuring out the possible cause of transmission issues I'm and have been experiencing with my 2017 Ford Edge. It all started back in 2018 with a hard shift when going from 2nd to 3rd gear. I'm not sure how long it has been going on, but I have also been experiencing delays when switching to reverse. My Ford dealership worked on the transmission on 3 different occasions, but the issues persisted. About a week ago, all of a sudden, while I was at a traffic light, the car started jerking and lost quite a bit of acceleration power. I only drove it about a mile since then to make it home. One thing I noticed is a delay and bang sound when switching to reverse, and humming/groning and noisy fan like noise coming from the transmission only while it's in park and neutral. The sound goes away in drive. There isn't a check engine or warning light on the dashboard. Any idea what the cause could be?

Hello, I've checked for any recalls or service bulletins for a 2017 Ford Edge related to transmission function. I did not find anything remarkable. Your concern sounds like an internal hydraulic concern - because anything electronic or based off of failed computer command would generally set trouble codes. When you have a symptom that has no codes set, it's often the mechanical functionality that is in question. I'd be curious as to what the dealership has done to diagnose and repair the vehicle previously, and certainly would suggest you consult with them first, as they have history with it. If I was guessing, I'd say there's some kind of valve body related or pressure related concern with engagement of clutches when in certain gears. Internal transmission noise is never a good sign either. Note that I do not know if you have the 3.5L V6 or the 2.0L turbocharged 4 cylinder engine in your vehicle, nor do I know if you have a front wheel drive version or an all wheel drive version. These bits of information are always helpful to share. If the dealership does not yield any assistance - especially consulting, not necessarily paying for a diagnostic test -- then I'd suggest reaching out to a local shop near you that may be able too weigh in and determine what's going on. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554.
