Problems with shifter cable getting jammed up or breaking on 2014 Ford edge

I have '14 Ford edge, an have had the shifter cable jammed up or broken twice, 1st time January 2018,an again Oct 2019,anybody else had that problem,? thank you,

What makes this problem better or worse?
