Why are the rack and pinion boots not required to be vented on 2012 Ford Edge?
What is your question?
When changing the rack and pinion boots on my 2012 Ford edge the other day, I noticed that the boots were not vented. Why do some vehicles have vents on the boots, and these do not have to have any?
The bellows boots on the steering gear are meant to prevent debris from getting into the seals of the gear, preventing contamination and damage that results from it.
I can't think of a reason you'd need to have a "vent" in these boots.
