I need to ask what is wrong with my Van?

It is stuck in Park and will not engage. The motor is fine and starts up. Is the problem with the brakes, a module a brake switch or something in the steering column? Please help!

Turn key on then back off just enough for the dash lights to go out... Try to put shifter in neutral so engine can be started. Put in drive.. go home and get it fixed when you can!.. Needs to be inspected by mechanic to determine problem..
