My 96 e150 is running real hot and the heat isn't working.

Thermostat could be sticking, coolant temperature sensor not reading. I'd take a 2014 van back to the dealer.

I am resaerching a similar issue with a 1998 e-150 v-6 engine. I am leaning toward an issue with a bad head gasket. You need to verify coolant in oil or vis-versa. Also, check the exhaust when you start it and look/smell for coolant! Not enough to hurt yourself!!
