hey! i know what you mean. i will tell you what i did to fix that problem.i took off the inside panel and removed the motor and brakets that raise and lower the window and i pushed down the window. then i opened the tailgate and i removed the rear driverside tail light. inside there is a plug that sends power to the tailgate. i think it is a 3wire plug. using a testlight you can check to make sure you have power from the switch on the dash. one slot is for the up, one is for the down, and one is power all the time. if you set the testlight so you can watch it when you push the button on the dash it should light up. unplug the window motor and use the test light on the plug end. using the key in the tailgate see if the test light will light up when you move the key side to side.if you do not have power at this point then your key switch in the tailgate is bad. i just cut the 1 or 2 black wires( that are power all the time) and tap them up. then cut the other wires and put them together using wire connectors and tape them up. now make sure you test the motor to raise and lower the window first before you put it back together. and start putting back together and it is fixed.
You will need a wiring diagram specific to your vehicle and a volt/ohm meter to do electric tests on the switch and electrical circuit. Autozone have some popular workshop manuals for free on line once you register (for free) on their website http://bit.ly/autozone_repair_info .There is a company that independent auto repair shops "buy" their information from that offer a very reasonable service to do it yourselvers. You get a one year subscription to year make and model specific repair procedures, service bulletins, component locations, wiring diagrams ect.... great quality information same as the professionals have ,much better than generic workshop manuals from parts stores, much cheaper than the factory manual. http://bit.ly/alldata_repair_manuals or try http://bit.ly/mitchell_repair_manuals_online and get an online repair manual subscription.
I had this problem right after I bought my bronco. I found that the groun wire needed cleaned. the ground wire is located behind the driversside tail light. I cleaned the connector and the area around the bolt hole with sandpaper. dont know if this is your problem but worth a try. good luck
snowplowdriver1, not sure if you still monitor this forum since this post was a decade ago but I was reviewing your answer and am trying to fix my rear window on my Bronco. I found the three wires behind the drivers side taillight. There is a black and white one (hot) and a purple/blue and a purple/green. I am trying to wire my window motor direct and here is the issue I have. I have tested the motor and it does work. When I connect the red wire from the motor to the black/white and the yellow from the motor to the purple/green or purple/blue the motor goes counter clockwise. When I reverse the red and yellow the motor turns clockwise and this is all with the ignition off. What am I doing wrong? Any help would be appreciated. Mike
