If the transfer case is an "electric shift" version; then, the problem you describe would likely be the transfer case shift actuator motor. This is a common problem. The shift actuator motor is mounted directly to the top rear of the transfer case, held on by 3 10mm bolts. It is available aftermarket for about $100.00. On the other hand, if the transfer case is the manual version (with a shift lever) then the problem is internal to the transfer case and is probably due to a worn shift fork or worn range fork. david@apexautoaz.com
