when I'm trying to fill the gas tank, the gas pump only allows a small amount of gas at a time

What is your question?

My gas light came on, I'd already driven about 320 miles since my last fill. While at the pump, the gas pump would only allow small amounts of gas to go into my gas tank at a time, the pump kept shutting off almost as if my tank was full, but that was not possible. What would cause this? I've never had any issues with the vehicle. My gas gauge seems to be running accurately, my check engine light is not on.

What makes this problem better or worse?
