sound in my engine that runs the alternator down when the car is not running

of course you mean runs the battery down not the alt,that would probabaly be your radiator fans,check and see if your ign key is stopping in the right place when you pull it out.if that aint it check your rad for coolant and your coolant sensors they could be giving the comp false readings.let me know what you find good luck.
