NOx emissions are hard to lower, the engine has to be working just right. Many "tuner modifications" raise NOx emissions and are so not smog legal in many states.Anything that raises temperatures inside the combustion chamber will raise NOx. If the EGR is not working efficiently or is partially restricted NOx emissions will be high.
