With engine running, lights and gauges go dim and engine strains. Something clicks on or off and lights and gaiged come back on

Only by reading the word BATTERIES did I get any clue of which engine is under hood ! Since there is more than one battery I must assume this is a Diesel engine. Have glow plug control system tested - seems it keeps turning on / off the glow plugs. Good luck to ya!
