Lost 5th gear

I really don't understand how that diagnosis was made without at least partial disassembly! What happen when shifted into 5th gear? .. Any noise or anything at all?

If it's internal to the transmission, no. There isn't a way around rebuilding or replacing. You can go with a junk yard transmission that may cost you around $1000 after install but you may have the same problem down the road.
