Rear end failure. Can I replace entire assembly with one from a 2500?

Thanks. The points you made are what I am looking for. I can't seem to get an answer if it will bolt right in, and what it might take. Gear ratio should not be a problem. The u-joint yoke may require a new axle, then the question would be the transmission. Considering the cost will be around 3000.00 I would like to make a sound decision. I tow a rv which is just under 6000 lbs. Just not ready yet to invest in new truck.

Perhaps. It is quite bothersome when determining exactly what it can tow. No one really has the correct answer. According to some a 1500 4x4 crew 5.7 liter with 355 rear can pull up to 7500 lbs. I had my rear end problems long before I towed anything. The truck is not stock. Over load shocks and helper leaf have been installed. Truck has a class 4 hitch. Even dodge at the time said it could pull 8000 lbs.

Without actually looking at it i guess i should not say but towing capacities are vastly overrated!
