If this is a manual clutch fan you probably need a new clutch. But if you can do this while the engine is normal its normal. The fan is only activated when the engine is hot. You should not be able to stop it when hot. If so you need a new clutch. Honeslty you shouldn't be doing this though. I've seen some really bad injuries by hands getting caught in fan blades. Alex
Monitor engine temperature gauge .. *IF* and when a problem with engine overheating occurs - THEN search for the problem! ... Being able to stop a 'clutched fan' rotation is normal. You should be able to actually hear the fan clutch engage when it is necessary .. The fan will make a little bit louder roaring sound .. Sometimes the fan is also louder upon COLD start up .. For more detailed information, Google > viscous mechanical clutch fan.
