What is your question?
The car starts up normal but when we put it in drive or reverse it sometimes wont go. And it will only rev like if we are in neutral. It is a 2013 dodge journey and it doesn't have a dipstick to check the fluid. Though there are videos i checked online where you can make measurements on the back of the oil dipstick and check it that way. We checked it and it seems to be a little on the low side and kinda dark than usual. There is also a whine when we are driving. Will putting in trans fluid make it work better or are we looking at a replacement that we can't afford?
What makes this problem better or worse?
If we idle at a stop light or sign for abit it and start to drive it doesn't go
How long has your 2013 Dodge Journey had this problem?
1 day

Hello, it is too hard to know for sure until it has been properly evaluated. You could have an electrical concern with engagement, such as the transmission not knowing you've selected "Drive". If you are close to a warranty period, you may want to consult your local Dodge dealership for assistance, maybe some goodwill help could be extended depending on the scenario. But first things first - testing must be performed. Good luck.
Our warranty was up in december of 2017. So i don't think the dealerships will help unfortunately... are these the common problems of electrical stuff going wrong? Would that be alot to fix or no?
I would not suggest anything be "common"; just possible. The dealership may be able to offer goodwill, but each has certain criteria. The dealership may also be aware of concerns not readily known and as such can be a good resource. As far as how much to repair - entirely impossible to know until testing is done, I'm sorry!
