Dealer said brakes were fine less than 6 wks ago

What does fine mean? Sounds like it meant they were fine when the car was in the shop and now they are in need of replacement. Can brakes wear out in three months? If the brake pads were worn low, but not replacement level 3 months ago, yes.
The rotors on all the 2010-2013 Journeys will always warp because they are too small regardless of the quality of the rotor. Of course this will wear out the pads prematurely. However, there is an additional problem that may significantly contribute to pad wear. Most OEM pads seem to have some level of extra metal on the edges of the tabs that slide in the caliper bracket slots. If , after the slots are cleaned of rust, the pads do not slide smoothly (but not loose) in the slots (with new clips), the tab edges (3 sides) of each end of the pad, need to be filed (also leave no burrs after filing). Do not remove too much material. The pads must not be loose (no play) when installed. If you have replaced the pads before and found one pad completely worn down to the metal and the companion pad still has considerable material left (1/4+ in.), then that pad was probably frozen in its slots. This is all based on my own 2010 Journey brake issue experience. Next time you have a dealer or shop do this job, ask for the worn parts back so you can inspect them. Hope this helps someone out there. 20 yrs. at GM & 20 yrs. at Chrysler.
