My brakes and what would be the cost to have them replaced. I cant afford much.

When I step on my brakes there is a whining and squealing noise and continues to squeal and grind as I'm driving and when slowing down to a complete stop. What would be my next steps? I would like the cheapest quote on the installment on my brakes if that's even the cause if possible due to I can not really afford it myself.
