Have you checked your electric fan system? When you turn on the ac, it sends a signal via computer to energize intermediate fan system. If the fans do not work properly, you will overheat. Not sure on the Durango system, but most Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep systems about the same through the 2010 models anyway. 2007 Jeep Wrangler with similar problem was faulty cooling fan module. Then fan later, then quit again a year or more later. I finally installed the old school electric fan power system. A good old late 79 to 85 Honda two wire sending unit in extra teed in water fitting, a old school gm ac/heater blower motor metal relay on firewall. Then relay output to an old 85 Tercel cooling fan mounted in front of condenser. Will last longer then the Jeep, believe me. I've been a mechanic for 45 years, worked for an Iranian man, very intelligent, for 15 years who owned a large garage, and full service Texaco. The things you can learn when nothing or no one is around for 100 miles or more, like in pre 1976 Iran.
BTW, the Jeep wrangle was 2007, 3.8 v6. First year of 3.8 for wrangler.
