What is your question?
I had a tune up 2 weeks ago and a tranny flush & new filter w/in last 6 months. when I picked up car it made a ticking noise. they said it could be lifters, or 2 other things but not sure. 6 days ago I threw a rod into block. wondering if during tune up they should have noticed perhaps the rocker arms or valve condition since check engine light had been on.. is there more they could have done to help prevent this from happening?

Did the vehicle have the noise before you took it to the shop? Was it run low on oil?did they do an oil change? Most mechanics don't check the oil before an oil change but they may take note that not much oil came out during the oil Change. Bearing damage and throwing a rod is usually do to oil starvation or sometimes rod bolt failure. Unless the mechanics botched the oil change they most likely are not at fault.
No, it most def. did not. plus their story changed from, it did not make that noise on test drive after tune up, to.. it made that noise 1/2 way back on test drive. Wouldn't a mechanic dive deeper into car if they couldnt find what was making that noise anyway ???
