Replaced power steering pump and on way home engine had problems

What is your question?

A local car garage worked on my vehicle with a strong engine. On the way home it again loss steering and it smoked. I called for a wrecker. Now the garage says it will be $2000 to repair. I think they caused the problem. I had a sensor prior to this and it showed no engine problems.

What makes this problem better or worse?
