Broken piece of camshaft position sensor in cylinder head? What do I do?

Hello, the valve cover should be removed to see if the piece is there, or if it is entirely missing, the cylinder head will have to come off to see where it went. I can't see what you're looking at, so I don't know the orientation of things, but is it possible the piece is still stuck where it fastens? Or do you know it's floating somewhere inside?
