Took my truck in to fix a front wheel bearing, and they fixed other things apparently. Or tried to. Got it back with no 4 wheel drive. What did they do?
What is your question?
Shop fixed front wheel bearing, and said something else. Got it back with no 4 wheel drive. The shop closed because of covid. What did they do?
Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team!
If you took your Dakota in for a wheel bearing replacement and ended up with no 4WD, it’s likely they tinkered with the axle or transfer case components—both of which could impact 4WD function if disturbed. On a 2000 Dakota, the 4WD actuator is vacuum-operated, so if they accidentally left a line disconnected or bumped the actuator, it could knock out your 4WD. A quick inspection of vacuum lines or connectors around the transfer case might reveal the culprit.
