how to find out if my heater blower is working?

Hi, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! On your 1992 Dodge Dakota testing the blower motor is actually pretty straightforward. The simplest first step is to turn the ignition to the on position, set the fan speed to high, and listen and feel for any airflow from the vents. If you hear nothing and feel no air movement the blower motor may not be functioning. You can also check the blower motor fuse and the blower motor resistor, as a blown fuse or failed resistor are the most common reasons a blower motor stops working on a vehicle of this age. If the fuse is good and you're comfortable using a basic multimeter, you can test for power at the blower motor connector directly to determine whether the motor itself has failed or if the issue is upstream in the wiring or switch. That said, on a 30 year old vehicle the wiring can be brittle and corroded, so if you're not entirely comfortable tracing electrical circuits a qualified shop can diagnose this quickly and inexpensively.
