What is reading -40? Your climate control display? Outside temperature display? The ambient outdoor temperature display is located near the front bumper beam. Interior temperature sensor is located in the area of the steering column. Seems like testing and workshop manual direction may be helpful. www.repairpal.com/repair-shops
