What is your question?
I have the manifold and vacuum pump, but does the AC system need to have the refrigerant recovered first before evacuating it then pulling the condenser? I have the new condenser to install as well, just want to make sure this is done right. I have called around to some shops, not getting much help, and they want $1000 or more, but the labor on the actual part I can do.
What makes this problem better or worse?
The car is heating up a lot, looks like air is getting blocked by the gunk from the condenser.
How long has your 2012 Dodge Charger had this problem?
about a month

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Sorry to hear about the heat drama! The answer is a resounding YES! You need to evacuate and recharge the HVAC before performing repairs. Most shops have HVAC machines that do this. They're handy because cars like your rad Charger take a very measured charge. You could probably hit up a shop and ask that they evacuate the HVAC before you do the work and then return to them to have them recharge it. Hope it all works out!
