I’ve been chasing an intermittent issue on my 2012 Dodge Charger SXT Plus V6 and I’m trying to figure out the most likely culprit before I keep throwing parts at it. It’s happened a few times now. Symptoms: - Randomly stalled while driving around 60 mph on the highway - no check engine left - Car suddenly acted like it went into neutral - After shutting it off, it would crank but wouldn’t start - I disconnected/reconnected the negative battery terminal and it started immediately afterward - Sometimes voltage seems normal, other times I’ve seen high/low voltage behavior - Car occasionally runs rough Codes pulled: - U0101-08 (Lost communication with TCM) - U11C3-00 - P1915-00 - These codes were pulled but I have no check engine light. Things already done: - Serpentine belt replaced - replaced battery - Replaced negative battery cable - Cleaned grounds - Battery current sensor replaced - Alternator supposedly tested “fine,” but issue
How long has your 2012 Dodge Charger had this problem?
More than a month

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! You've done solid legwork here but those U codes pointing to lost TCM communication combined with the fact that disconnecting the battery resets everything is a big clue. This has the fingerprints of an intermittent power or ground supply issue to the TCM or PCM rather than a transmission problem itself. The alternator testing "fine" on a basic test doesn't rule out voltage spikes or drops under load, which can wreak havoc on module communication. I'd have the charging system tested under real driving conditions with a data logger, and have a shop do a thorough inspection of the TCM power and ground circuits specifically. Chasing intermittent electrical gremlins is frustrating but you're closer than you think!
