Hello, sounds like perhaps the transmission did not engage as expected when you pressed the accelerator pedal. The burning smell could be related indeed. I do not think you will "burn into flames" - but indeed it's sounding like a concern with the transmission probably internally. Have you checked the transmission fluid level and condition lately?
