Strange smell coming out of air vent.

A strange smell omits from the air vent when I drive my van. It just started to happen yesterday. When the air conditioning is on, the smell is not that overwhelming, but when the regular air from outside is on and the heat, then the smell gets really strong. Like a burning of some sort. Please help!
