Low fuel light flashing on & dinging while have 1/2 tank of gas

The body control module (BCM) controls position of the fuel gage as well as the fuel warning light and chime. The thing is, they are related -- and derive information from the fuel pump module in the fuel tank. I can't think of a reason why the low fuel light would be on along with the gauge showing half full. Perhaps use of a diagnostic tool can be used to command these components to see what is happening.
