2007 dodge caliber... starts, goes into first gear, but wont go into 2nd unless the door auto locks engage. If they don't, it stays in first... what could the problem be?

Hello, the only correlation of auto locks to shifting would be related to the signal of the vehicle speed sensor. If this is reading "0" the auto locks will not function, and certainly the transmission will not see any speed attained where shifting gears is needed. I would also think, though, that your speedometer would be malfunctioning - but you did not mention this. I would use a diagnostic tool to monitor vehicle speed sensor output and see if there is an issue there. At the same time, checking other automatic transmission input and output information is important as well. Testing should be performed when the problem is actively happening.
