What is your question?
I'm trying to change the spark plug and valve cover gasket. The gaskets I bought are fel-pros. I got them on the valve cover. However. They aren't going into the grooves all the way. The little bumps on the gaskets are keeping them from doing this. Are the gaskets not supposed to fit into the grooves all the way?

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! When it comes to valve cover gaskets, those Fel-Pro gaskets should fit snugly into the grooves without leaving any gaps or sitting unevenly. If they’re not fitting all the way in, it’s often due to misalignment, dirt in the groove, or, occasionally, a gasket mismatch. The little bumps you mentioned are designed to help create a proper seal, not to sit outside the groove. Make sure the valve cover groove is completely clean—any leftover debris or old gasket material can prevent a proper fit. Also, double-check that you’ve got the right part number for your Avenger; Fel-Pro's a good brand, but mistakes happen. If you’re still struggling, try pressing the gasket into the groove bit by bit, working evenly around the perimeter. Sometimes, warming the gasket slightly (with your hands, not a blowtorch!) can make it more pliable.
