When you drive the car especially over 55 mph--or near there--it starts to overheat--the temp gauge starts to go up--then when you turn on the heater on high it cools it back down--this is 2013 dodge avenger
What makes this problem better or worse?
Running heat on high will cool it down

This doesn't make too much sense as the engines fan is not needed at speeds abouve 55 mph. Was the coolant recently changed? It could have an air pocket that needs to be bled. Also, you may consider a thermostat at this point as well. Alex
No we have never changed the coolant or needed to add any. Now we replaced the thermostat and the temp gauge inside is going up over a high to a point of having to turn on the heat at full blast for it to cool back down--but all the fans are working?
