Code P0740 stands for Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Out of Range. The torque converter is a fluid coupling device used to transfer power from the engine to the transmission. As for the TCC, it "locks" the converter to create a direct mechanical link between the engine and transmission. This reduces transmission operating temperatures while also improving fuel economy. Hydraulic fluid is used to apply the clutch via a solenoid valve located in the transmission valve body. Although the code often indicates an internal transmission or torque converter problem, it can be caused by other issues as well, such as a bad solenoid, circuit problem or valve body issue. To know for certain, I recommend having your vehicle diagnosed by a professional firsthand. You can find a list of reputable shops here: https://repairpal.com/repair-shops
