sit a bit. Just notice I can turn the key to on position a few times and it will crank. Could this be fuel pressure regalator

sounds like you have a fuel pump leaking down and not holding pressure
Check the throttle body around the throttle plate for sludge build up. It will restrict the air flow when starting and case extended crank time. If you give it a tad bit of throttle and it starts up faster that's a sign it needs cleaned.
Had the sane problem with the sane year model vehicle, answer #1 was correct. Even after having fuel pump replcaed the sane problem occured, cano to find out the fuel pump gasmet was keaking down presure. replaced second gaskey problem solved.
