I have a 2006 Sebring Convertible. Yes, I hear they break a lot. If you are like me, it was my driver's side"door check," which is like a hinge, but keeps the door open when you open it. It also keeps the door from opening too wide and damaging the other hinges. Mine made a horrible sound until I figured out it was the "door check". Mopar has one for about $50. I ordered one from Amazon made by "Dorman" which was under $30. I had to take the inside of the door off to install it. Installing it was easy once the inside was off. Now, after about 6 months the door check is making a "creaking sound" (not like it did when the old was broken) but I don't think it will fail for a while. I learned how to take the inside of the door off from a You Tube video, which used a Sebring to show how to do it. (Even though it was a "Sebring" some of the screws the video said to remove weren't there. It varies by model, but I was able to do it, whereas without the video I would have had no clue.
