This does not sounds correct, because your car has front struts, which means that there are no upper ball joints, only lower ball joints. Who gave you this information?
A very reputable auto repair shop, that replaced my clock spring this morning.
The front end of my car sounds like an old battleship creaking. Especially the front drivers side.
Their charge for the clockspring replacement was $210.00 , which I thought was fair.
While there this AM I asked them to check my front end and that it what they told me.
the total job , would be over $1,000 between parts & labor.
I will certainly, look/ask other shops for opinions & pricing.
$1,000 is alot of money to me, as I am retired & on a fixed income.
In fact, if , it is what it is, I just might sell the car, as I just put over $500,00 into it for brakes, clockspring etc & I still have a 9 year old car with close to 100K on it.
Geeeesh, if the tranny or engine becomes a problem Im really stuck. ( In addition to so many other mechanical things that will probably start going as the car ages.
Timing chains/belts, radiator, hoses etc.
Frankly, I needed the clockspring replaced as my horn didnt work & the car wouldnt pass NC inspection w/o the horn working.
I imagine many others in my situation have the same dilema.
By the way, The car still rides wonderfully, & I do still enjoy driving it.
